Charlotte's Find

What you have found buried in the picture is the following

This is a lovely find and goes to show that anyone can contribute and help piece together our history. This was found by Charlotte Mason while digging, with a hand tool, in a friend's garden.

Many thanks to Charlotte for allowing us to share her wonderful find with everyone and a thank you to her father Mr. John Mason for initially contacting us.

I have spoken with Mr. Mason who has asked about entering the find onto a national database of which we have suggested two....The P.A.S. is the main one and UKDFD the other. When they are on we will be glad to provide a link for all to share.

It has been formally identified by and identification accredited to Mr. Rod Blunt on ukdfd as :-

An Early (c.1500-1550) anonymous rose/orb jeton with a fictitious legend.

These are often found by detectorists, but not always in as good a condition as this one, more often they are badly damaged and worn.

You may be able to see in the image that the legend seems to make no sense and appears to use only 4 letters over and over in different combinations.
