Welcome to my page.
My nickname wildmantel was
chosen by myself, when I joined an internet site called UKDN. Most members
give themselves a nickname which they become known as and is often used
when we meet up at rallies. Mine originated from my enjoyment of Nature's
Supermarket of free food hence the motto:
Nature's Supermarket has
branches everywhere,
use them don't lose them
My other nickname G.G. was
given to me by a bonny wee lassie by the name of Corinne Mills, after we
first met up on a club site and she referred to me as a gentle giant of a
man. All 21 stone of me! I have since lost 5 stone, but the nickname
remains. Corinne and I were to go on many a detecting day together usually
on the same farm, where we were to able to recover artefacts and coins
from all periods helping to chart the possible use of the locality in
question. From the Iron Age through to the present day.
Around the edges are some of the
items that I have been fortunate to find. Each image will take you
to another page or site with the exception of the picture of me. I am just
a dead end
I decided to take up the hobby,
although I hated History at school, because of the thrill of the chase, so
to speak. Locating a piece of land , obtaining the landowner's
permission to search and recover, recording my finds with the local F.L.O.
and eventually on to producing this site. A big thank you to Corinne
for being an inspiration and great help in setting up and running
C.H.A.R.T. which I hope
will be of benefit to everyone by adding to our archaeological knowledge
as well as providing people with a small insight of the history of their
own home and the surrounding land albeit a garden, field or paddock
I have, along with Corinne and
another friend Jon, been of assistance to our local F.L.O. by
helping at the history fair at Braintree Museum and also out in the field with a
group of very enthusiastic young archaeologists of the future. we hope
that we will continue to
do so with members of the
public or archaeologists who wish to use our services. A great chance for
everyone to work together and to learn while making a contribution to our
historical records.
Helping you to
C.H.A.R.T. our history
2009 has been fairly good to me, with
my best artefact find to date.
I often visit a club site which has
been 'Done' for 20 years, but I still go along because it has produced
before.
This Year was to bring within my reach a Saxon 6th
Century saucer brooch with running scroll design. You can view it in the
gallery

All of my finds have been made with my favourite
machine, C-Scope 1220XD which I have since gone on to sell to a good
friend who was new to the hobby. I hoped to show him that it was not the
machine but the way it is used that counts.
So far I have been proved wrong! my excuse, illness
prevented me from going out and I have yet to get used to my current
machine which is a C-Scope CS4ZX
I have always used C-Scope and found them to be very
good, so I have provided a link to their site on the home page but here it
is again.
